Some vehicles have drum brakes, some have disc brakes, others have a combination of both, and to top it off, some disc brakes are ventilated. What is the difference and how does it affect you? Marlow Heights Toyota discusses brake types. What are Drum Brakes? Drum brakes are what the name suggests. The brakes look like small drums. Inside the drum is a shoe. When the driver presses the brake pedal, a piston in the drum pushes the brake shoe, and the pressure forces the shoe to the inside of the drum. The drum uses friction and heat to slow the vehicle. Drum brakes have more components, they are heavier, and they can be harder to service, but they are less expensive than disc brakes. Therefore, many manufacturers use drum brakes on the rear and disc brakes on the front of a vehicle. Emergency braking mechanisms are easily incorporated into drum brake designs. Only a cable actuation mechanism is required. When the emergency mechanism is engaged, the cable pulls the two shoes apart. What are Disc Brakes? Instead of a large drum, disc brakes have a rotor and caliper, which has brake pads.

Toyota offers a special rebate program for qualified service members to show them just how much their dedication and service mean to the company. Arlington area Toyota honors the military with a special rebate program through TFS. What is the Military Rebate Program? Toyota Financial Services offers the military rebate program. Qualified military applicants can use the $500 rebate toward the purchase or lease of a brand new Toyota vehicle. The purchase must be made through an authorized Toyota dealership. The rebate cannot be combined with the college graduate rebate. Your Toyota dealership representative can provide you with more information about the special programs. Toyota offers the program until January 4, 2016. Do I Qualify? Military members, their household members, and Gold Star families are encouraged to apply. To qualify through Toyota Financial Services, certain income and credit requirements apply. Those who can apply include military service personnel and their household family members, retirees who left the service within a year of purchase or lease, and veterans of the US military who are within a year of discharge.   To determine if you are eligible, you must provide the finance adviser with must provide the following documents: proof of active service with a Leave and Earning Statement, your military I.D., or a DD-214 for veterans and retirees; and proof of earnings to make the loan or lease payment.
