Toyota returns to the Big Game with a 60-second ad that shares an inspiring message of determination and spotlights the power of sport

Toyota’s Big Game ad – “Brothers” – features two real-life brothers: Brian McKeever (Global Team Toyota Athlete and Canada’s most decorated Winter Paralympian) and Robin McKeever (Olympian, cross-country skiing / Paralympic guide and coach, Para Nordic Skiing). “Brothers” takes viewers on a journey of the brothers’ lives, from their childhood in Canada, where they develop a passion for cross-country skiing, to navigating the loss of Brian’s central vision at age 19 due to Stargardt Macular Degeneration. Despite living with the untreatable degenerative eye condition, Brian and his brother Robin continue to train together, which eventually leads Robin to compete at the Olympic Winter Games, and both brothers to compete at the Paralympic Winter Games with Robin serving as Brian’s guide. “Robin and Brian’s story reminds us that with strength, determination and the freedom to move, you can accomplish anything,” said Lisa Materazzo, group vice president, Toyota Marketing, Toyota Motor North America. “Toyota’s support of the Olympic and Paralympic Movement gives us the honor of highlighting our amazing Team Toyota athletes that achieve the impossible every day.” The 60-second spot begins with Robin teaching Brian how to ski at a young age. The brothers (portrayed by actors) are then shown admiring a cross-country skiing race on television, transitioning to adolescent Brian trying to keep up with Robin while bike riding down a neighborhood hill. The camera then cuts to a close-up x-ray of Brian’s eye, depicting the moment he learned of his Stargardt diagnosis. The spot continues with Robin encouraging his brother forward, vocally guiding him, with snippets interwoven depicting the moments of their training sessions. The spot concludes with a scene of the actual McKeever brothers crossing the finish line and winning Paralympic gold with the uplifting message: “After Brian lost his eyesight, the McKeever brothers went on to win 10 Paralympic medals. Together.” “I hope my story inspires viewers to start their impossible – whatever that might be,” said Brian McKeever. “I’ve learned firsthand that anything is possible with perseverance, and the support of a brother, like Robin.” “Brothers” will air in the first position (A) in the first commercial break of the Big Game on February 13, 2022 on NBC. “Brothers” was created by Toyota’s agency of record, Saatchi & Saatchi, in partnership with Dentsu and directed by Seb Edwards.

Inspect Your Tires At Least Once A Month, The condition of your tires can mean the difference between a close call and a collision

Checked Your Tires Lately? The condition of your tires can mean the difference between a close call and a collision Improper inflation and unnoticed tire damage can lead to blowouts. Even undamaged tires with half their tread may lose traction on wet surfaces and hydroplane. THE PENNY TEST Tread depth is measured in 32nds of an inch. Tread depth on new tires typically measures 10/32 inches or 11/32 inches (about a third of an inch), while trucks, SUVs, or winter tires may have deeper treads. When tires reach 2/32 inches, the U.S. Department of Transportation recommends replacing them. more To check whether you've hit the 2/32-inch mark, use the penny test as follows: • Place a penny in a tire tread groove with Lincoln's head face first in the groove. • Check if Lincoln's face on the penny disappears between the grooves. • If it does, your tread is still above 2/32 inches. If you can see all of Lincoln's face, it's time to replace your tire. • Make sure to repeat with all tires and in various places on each tire. There are a few other ways for drivers to check tire tread depth, including using a tread depth gauge and tread wear indicator bars. Toyota Charges into Electrified Future in the U.S. with 10-year, $3.4 billion Investment

Toyota announced today that it will invest approximately $3.4 billion (380 billion yen) in automotive batteries in the United States through 2030. Specifically, the investment is for developing and localizing automotive battery production, including those for battery electric vehicles, and is part of the global total of approx. $13.5 billion (1.5 trillion yen) set aside for investment in battery development and production announced last month by Toyota Motor Corporation. To drive battery production localization, Toyota Motor North America also announced today that it will establish a new company and build an automotive battery plant together with Toyota Tsusho in the U.S. Aiming to start production in 2025, the project includes an investment of approximately $1.29 billion until 2031, which includes funds that will be used to develop land and build facilities, resulting in the creation of 1,750 new American jobs. more “Toyota’s commitment to electrification is about achieving long-term sustainability for the environment, American jobs and consumers,” said Ted Ogawa, chief executive officer, Toyota Motor North America. “This investment will help usher in more affordable electrified vehicles for U.S. consumers, significantly reduce carbon emissions, and importantly, create even more American jobs tied to the future of mobility.” Part of the new company’s activities will include helping Toyota to further develop and expand its local supply chain and production knowledge related to Lithium-ion automotive batteries. The venture will first focus on producing batteries for hybrid electric vehicles. Additionally, the move is expected to help further the company’s goals to create a net positive impact on the planet and society, including advancing its efforts towards carbon neutrality in a sustainable and practical way. Further details of the project, including details on a site, production capacity, business structure, etc. will be shared at a future time. Quick facts about Toyota’s electrification efforts: • Cumulatively, Toyota has sold more than 18.7 million electrified vehicles, including over 4.5 million in the U.S. • While electrified vehicles already account for nearly 25 percent of Toyota’s U.S. sales volume, that number is expected to rise to nearly 70 percent by 2030. • To meet the growing demand, Toyota continues to steadily expand its lineup of electrified vehicles, including hybrid (HEV), plug-in hybrid (PHEV), fuel cell (FCEV) and battery electric vehicles (BEV), from 55 models today to about 70 models by 2025. • Of the 70 models, 15 will be BEVs, including seven Toyota bZ (Beyond Zero) models. • By 2030, Toyota expects to sell two million zero emission vehicles (BEVs and FCEVs) globally, and in the U.S., the company expects to sell between 1.5 million to 1.8 million electrified vehicles, including ZEV models.

Toyota Mirai Sets GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ Title with 845 Mile Zero Emission Journey

The 2021 Toyota Mirai has officially set the GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS title for the longest distance by a hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicle without refueling. The Mirai achieved an unprecedented 845 miles driven on a single, five-minute complete fill of hydrogen during a roundtrip tour of Southern California as it set the record. Recently selected by Ward’s Automotive as a 10Best Engine & Propulsion Systems winner, the Toyota Mirai’s record sets a new distance milestone for zero emission vehicles. “In 2016, the Toyota Mirai was the first production fuel cell electric vehicle available for retail sale in North America, and now the next generation Mirai is setting distance records,” said Bob Carter, executive vice president, Toyota Motor North America. “We are proud to be leaders of this exciting technology, which is just one of a growing lineup of zero emission vehicles in our portfolio.” more The official record attempt was closely monitored by Guinness World Records, adhering to its strict rules and documentation procedures. On its efficiency-focused August 23 and 24, 2021 journey, the Mirai logged an impressive 152 MPGe with water as its only emission. GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS adjudicator, Michael Empric, validated the Mirai’s tank with a seal at both the beginning and end of the journey. Driven by professional hypermiler, Wayne Gerdes and co-piloted by Bob Winger, the two-day trip began on Monday, August 23, 2021, at the Toyota Technical Center (TTC) in Gardena, California, home of Toyota’s fuel cell development group. The duo traveled south to San Ysidro and then north to Santa Barbara cruising through Santa Monica and Malibu beach along the Pacific Coast Highway. They returned to TTC that evening and logged 473 miles with only two driver swaps that day. The next day, August 24, 2021, consisted of more local driving loops, where they pushed through 372 more miles of morning and afternoon rush hour traffic on the San Diego freeway between Los Angeles and Orange County until the Mirai had no more hydrogen left and coasted into TTC with a grand total of 845 miles driven, as witnessed by Empric. “As a GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS adjudicator for 10 years, I’ve had the opportunity to witness incredible attempts, including several distance-related feats,” said Empric. “The Toyota Mirai’s journey without the need to refuel showcases the power of fuel cell electric technology. This technology and the design ingenuity by the team at Toyota led to a history-making moment.” By the end of the trip, the Mirai consumed a total of 5.65kg of hydrogen and passed a total of 12 hydrogen stations along the drive routes without refueling. The Mirai was driven mainly during rush hour traffic in temperatures between 65 to 83 degrees Fahrenheit. It emitted zero pounds of CO2, where a standard internal combustion engine vehicle would have emitted about 664 lbs. of CO2 over the same distance. The landmark results were achieved by drivers skilled in hypermiling techniques that optimized the Mirai’s vehicle performance under specific weather and driving conditions. They also leveraged some basic fuel-efficient driving tips that any driver can practice. MAINTENANCE & PREPARATION: • Keep up on all scheduled maintenance. A poorly tuned engine will burn more fuel, which can impact fuel economy. (FUN FACT: The 2021 Mirai comes with extended ToyotaCare coverage – a scheduled maintenance plan for 3 years or 35,000 miles!) • Ensure proper wheel alignment. • Check tire pressure, under-inflated tires can lower fuel economy. • Remove cargo or cargo racks to reduce weight. DRIVING TECHNIQUES: • Avoid quick acceleration or heavy braking. • Avoid driving at higher speeds. • Minimize running mechanical and electrical accessories i.e. air conditioner. (FUN FACT: The 2021 Mirai has Drive Mode Select, which offers an ECO mode to prioritize efficiency by optimizing air conditioning operation. Additionally, as on Toyota Hybrids, Predictive Efficient Drive can learn repeatedly traveled routes to optimize charging and discharging of the battery to help maximize fuel economy and driving range.)
