Toyota 4Runner TRD Sport Added to Lineup for 2022 Model Year

As a Toyota lineup mainstay for nearly 40 years, the Toyota 4Runner has carved out its place as the do-anything SUV that’s at home whether on the pavement or the trail. For 2022, the 4Runner lineup expands with the addition of TRD Sport, offering an exceptional combination of style and performance. Takin’ It to the Streets Similar to its mid-size truck sibling the Tacoma, 4Runner adds TRD Sport grade to complement TRD Off-Road and TRD Pro, but where TRD Off-Road and Pro add trail-ready features designed for tackling the toughest terrain, TRD Sport looks to add style, flair and some road-worthy upgrades. With an emphasis on everyday comfort and enhanced road dynamics, 4Runner TRD Sport adds the exclusive Cross-Linked Relative Absorber System (X-REAS) suspension to enhance on-road handling. The X-REAS system, also found on the Limited grade, automatically adjusts the damping force of shock absorbers when driving over bumpy surfaces or when cornering. A center control absorber cross-links the shock absorbers on opposite corners of the vehicle, like an “X,” to help reduce pitch and yaw by offsetting opposing inputs. TRD Sport is available in 2WD or part-time 4WD with a 2-speed transfer case. Regardless of choice, 2WD 4Runners provide an ample 9.0 inches of ground clearance while 4WD models offer an even more generous 9.6 inches of ground clearance. TRD Sport builds upon the SR5 grade on which it is based by swapping the 17-inch wheels in favor of new machine-faced 20-inch wheels with Dark Gray accents. All 4Runners come equipped with a full-sized spare tire. Unique styling comes in the form of color-keyed accents on the grille, rocker panels and body molding. The signature TRD-style hood scoop is added to TRD Sport, as is a front spoiler, and black roof rails complement the color scheme. Inside, TRD sport ditches cloth for SofTex-trimmed seats, which adds heated front seats to the mix. The black SofTex-trimmed seats offer unique gray contrast stitching, and the front headrests feature gray-colored TRD stitched logos. TRD Sport floor mats are included and a standard TRD shift knob completes the look. 4Runner TRD Sport is equipped with a standard 8-inch multimedia touchscreen display. In addition to Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and Amazon Alexa compatibility, the multimedia system includes a USB media port, hands-free phone capability, advanced voice recognition and music streaming via Bluetooth® wireless technology, and a SiriusXM® 3-month All Access trial. Connected Services include Safety Connect® with 1-year trial and Wi-Fi Connect with up to 2 GB or 3-month trial, whichever comes first. For 2022, all 4Runner grades include LED headlamps (low beams), fog lamps and now LED high beams as well. 4Runner: The Do-It-All SUV 4Runner’s inherent strength starts with its tough-as-nails, body-on-frame construction featuring a four-link rear axle and coil-spring suspension – with TRD Sport, of course, adding X-REAS to its list of suspension features. 4Runner is powered by a 270-horsepower 4.0-liter V6 engine. The powerplant’s 278 lb.-ft. of peak torque gives it plenty of get-up-and-go, and Dual Independent Variable Valve Timing with intelligence (VVT-i) helps optimize torque across the engine’s operating range. Mated to the V6 is a five-speed ECT-i automatic transmission that includes a sequential shift mode for manually shifting when more control is desired. TRD Sport, like all 4Runner grades, includes a standard integrated tow-hitch receiver and wiring harness and can tow a maximum of 5,000 pounds, with a maximum 500-pound tongue weight. 4Runner 2WD models feature standard Automatic Limited Slip Differential (Auto LSD), a function of the traction control (TRAC) that allows some wheel slippage to help the vehicle dig out from sand or snow, for example. The available part-time 4WD system uses Active Traction Control (A-TRAC) and bolsters off-road capability with a 2-speed transfer case with selectable low-range. By distributing drive force to any one wheel in contact with the ground, A-TRAC can help maintain traction when it senses wheel slippage occurring on terrain irregularities and slippery patches. When it comes to storage, 4Runner offers multiple options. With the second-row seats in use, the cargo area offers up to 47.2 cu. ft. of carrying space. If it’s just two people and their gear hitting the road or trail, folding the second row opens a cavernous 89.7 cu.-ft. cargo area. The second-row seats fold flat without having to remove the headrests. For power on the go, the 4Runner has a standard 120V outlet and two 12V outlets. An 8-way power driver’s seat, leather-trimmed tilt/telescopic steering wheel, air conditioning with rear seat vents and pollen filter, and power-sliding liftgate window are standard on TRD Sport. A 4.2-inch multi-information display provides the driver with readouts for outside temperature, odometer, trip meters, fuel economy estimate averages, and TSS-P features, including Lane Departure Alert and Dynamic Radar Cruise Control. Toyota Safety Sense P All 2022 4Runner models come standard with Toyota Safety Sense P (TSS-P), an advanced suite of driver-assist technologies that includes Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection, Lane Departure Alert with Sway Warning System, Automatic High Beams, and High-Speed Dynamic Radar Cruise Control. Along with TSS-P, 4Runner models also come equipped with Toyota’s Star Safety System that includes Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) with traction control (TRAC, or A-TRAC with 4WD) and Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) with Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD), Brake Assist (BA), and the Smart Stop Technology (SST) brake-override system. Eight standard airbags include driver and front passenger Advanced Airbag System; front seat-mounted side airbags; driver and front passenger knee airbags, and all-row roll-sensing side curtain airbags. Limited Warranty and ToyotaCare Toyota’s 36-month/36,000-mile basic new-vehicle warranty applies to all components other than normal wear and maintenance items. Additional 60-month warranties cover the powertrain for 60,000 miles and corrosion with no mileage limitation. The 2022 4Runner also comes with ToyotaCare, a complimentary plan covering normal factory-scheduled maintenance for 2 years or 25,000 miles, whichever comes first, and 24-hour roadside assistance for two years, unlimited mileage.

Embrace Your Adventurous Side with the New Sienna Woodland Special Edition

The new Toyota Sienna is leveling up for 2022, thanks to the new Sienna Woodland Special Edition. Featuring adventure-ready, rugged styling and a standard Electronic On-Demand All-Wheel Drive System with increased ground clearance, the new edition will help drivers tackle outdoor adventures with confidence. Once the Sienna Woodland Special Edition is in dealerships this Fall, Toyota will make a $250 donation to the National Environmental Education Foundation (NEEF) for each vehicle purchased, with a guaranteed minimum donation of $250,000, to support NEEF’s mission to make the environment more accessible, relatable, relevant and connected to people’s lives. The new Sienna Woodland Special Edition, in the available exterior colors Cement (exclusive to the Sienna Woodland Edition) or Midnight Black Metallic, offers a beautifully distinctive exterior and premium interior styling with the versatile features one would expect from the fourth generation Sienna. Designed with a focus on versatility and comfort combined with class-leading projected 35 EPA-estimated combined MPG, the Sienna Woodland Edition comes standard with: more • AWD w/ Added Ground Clearance – To take on dirt roads with confidence • 1500W capable power outlet – To power-up most household items for a short day trip or an overnight camping excursion • Tow hitch with 3500lb Towing Capability – Perfect for bringing a 4Wheeler or Jet Ski • Roof rails with crossbars • Exclusive Cement exterior color • Black sport trimmed seats with unique stitch color • 18” wheels • Dark chrome-colored accents • Black badging • Navigation with JBL® 1200W System with 12 Speakers And with the flexibility and roominess to fit people, pets and recreational gear – the Sienna Woodland Edition also comes standard with features like super-long-slide second-row captain’s chairs, flexible seating and cargo layout with Split & Stow 3rd Row® Seat, kick-activated sliding doors, heated front driver & passenger seats, sunshades in the 2nd row and a total of seven USB ports across all three rows. Electronic On-Demand All Wheel Drive The new generation Sienna is the only vehicle in its segment that combines a hybrid powertrain with AWD, and the system is available on all model grades for an exceptionally attractive price. For the 2022 Sienna Woodland Special Edition, drivers can now enjoy standard Electronic On-Demand All-Wheel Drive System with increased ground clearance. Instead of a heavy AWD transfer case and space-robbing driveshaft to the rear wheels, this AWD system uses a separate independent electric motor to power the rear wheels the instant additional traction is needed and at all vehicle speeds. Like the hybrid system, the Hybrid AWD system works seamlessly and transparently. During off-the-line starts, Hybrid AWD pre-emptively sends up to 80 percent of driving force to the rear wheels to help prevent front-wheel slip. The Hybrid AWD system also enhances cornering agility by helping to reduce understeer, giving the Sienna a more confident handling feel. Torque distribution then varies with conditions, from 100:0 in constant-speed driving to 20:80 on slippery surfaces. Torque distribution is indicated on the Multi-information Display. Class Exclusive Safety Features In addition to exemplary collision protection provided by the TNGA-K Platform, the 2022 Sienna Woodland Special Edition, come standard with second-generation Toyota Safety Sense (TSS 2.0), a comprehensive active safety system that includes: • Pre-Collision system with Pedestrian Detection • Lane Departure Alert w/Lane Trace Assist • Full Speed Adaptive Cruise Control • Automatic High Beams • Cyclist Detection • Road Sign Recognition Pre-Collision System (PCS) with Pedestrian Detection is designed to provide automatic braking capability should the driver not react in time in certain emergency situations. The PCS system is not only designed to detect a vehicle ahead, but it can also detect a bicyclist and even a pedestrian in low light situations. Blind Spot Monitor (BSM) with Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA) is standard on all Sienna models, as well. Toyota Limited Warranty Toyota’s 36-month/36,000 mile basic new-vehiclewarranty applies to all components other than normal wear and maintenance items. Additional 60-month warranties cover the powertrain for 60,000 miles and against perforation from corrosion for 60 months with no mileage limitation. Hybrid-related components that require repairs needed to correct defects in materials or workmanship are covered for 8 years/100,000 miles, whichever comes first from original date of first use when sold as new. The HV battery is covered for 10 years/150,000 miles, whichever comes first, and is transferrable across ownership. The 2022 Sienna Woodland Special Edition also comes with ToyotaCare, which covers normal factory-scheduled maintenance, for two years or 25,000 miles, whichever comes first, and 2 years of Roadside Assistance, regardless of mileage.

How to Install a Child Car Seat in my Toyota: There’s an App for That!

When engineering and design come together with a bit of serendipity at Toyota, any issue can be addressed – especially when the development of a solution is powered by a mother’s love and passion. Safety is always a priority at Toyota, and the drive for safety innovation continues every day. Sometimes, the genesis is a random conversation between colleagues in the break room. Jennifer Pelky is a Toyota principal engineer of vehicle performance development for interior safety, vice chair-elect of the National Child Passenger Safety Board, and mother of two. Lindsay Babian is a Toyota principal engineer of body design for seats and mother of one. While having lunch in the cafeteria of Toyota’s Michigan R&D facility in 2019, the pair’s conversation steered toward the confusion they had both experienced when installing different makes of child car seats in different types of vehicles. more That’s when the eureka moment struck. If even professional safety engineers and designers struggled with car seats, then many parents, grandparents and guardians also probably needed more help and information. The conversation resulted in Toyota for Families – a new digital toolkit featuring detailed car seat installation instructions and video that officially launched in March 2021 for the Toyota Sienna. “I designed the parts for securely attaching a car seat myself, yet there is still some confusion about proper car seat installation, which can become a real problem,” Babian said. “When Jen approached me with this, I saw the need for a solution. Now, parents, caregivers and grandparents who find it a challenge will have a tool to help them succeed.” Always striving for safety improvement Despite best efforts, vehicle crashes remain a leading cause of death among American children, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Though car seat technology has improved considerably from the days of children sitting on telephone books or riding on package trays, research from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) shows that over half of all car seats are installed incorrectly. Proper installation and use of car seats can reduce injuries in a crash by more than 70% (NHTSA) , and booster seats can reduce the risk of injury by 45% (CDC). To take advantage of those safety benefits, consumers could use more information about proper car seat installation in vehicles. COVID-19 also created an even greater need for easier access to instruction, since social distancing requirements make it more difficult for parents to get the in-person installation help they often need. Pelky and Babian set out to provide more accessible information. “With all the different seat combinations that exist in many vehicles, people can use more assistance,” Pelky said. Necessity is the mother of invention. But, in this case, these enterprising mothers were the mothers of invention. With a goal of 100% of car seats installed correctly, the duo addressed a question that needed a logical, simple answer. How can Toyota use its customer apps and website to demonstrate and explain how to properly install a variety of car seats in Toyota vehicles? The team also enlisted the help of Janelle Pharris, a mom of two and advanced technology senior planner for Toyota, whose previous work background includes marketing for Newell Brands’ Graco® line of car seats and strollers. Then, the three women got to work on their child seat safety project as a “shared passion project” focusing first on the highly anticipated 2021 Toyota Sienna. During development, the COVID-19 pandemic struck, forcing all to work remotely – Pelky and Babian in Michigan and Pharris in Texas. The team overcame these challenges and even worked through personal vacations to create Toyota for Families – an elegant and practical solution that Toyota proudly awarded as a winner in both its internal Innovation Fair and Tank2 competitions. Modern issues and modern solutions On the Toyota website or within the Toyota Owners App, users select their vehicle or enter the VIN. Users then select the car seat location they want and then enter the type of car seat they have: forward-facing, rear-facing or booster seat. If they’re unsure which one they should use, the toolkit also has a “help-me-choose” guide they can select based on their child’s age and weight. Next, the app shows the user a custom video and written step-by-step instructions detailing installation of a generic child seat into the specific vehicle, in the specific position and installation method they’ve selected: LATCH or seat belt. If there’s a known incompatibility with their choice, the system is designed to automatically flag it and prompts them to choose a valid option. To help prevent mistakes, the video shows critical steps necessary to achieve correct installation. The video will also show additional steps, such as how to remove a headrest, if that’s something necessary prior to installing the car seat. Toyota envisions a variety of use cases for the toolkit. • Prospective customers at home or in a showroom can learn about family safety and convenience features while shopping for their vehicles. • Dealerships can use it as an education tool for customers to learn about safety and convenience features of their newly purchased vehicle. Or, if a customer comes in for service and has questions, the dealership can use it to help answer them. • Toyota drivers can use the app to find video and written instructions for installing their type of car seat in a specific seating position in their vehicle. The development of this unique safety offering was a true labor of love for the three women. “We really took joy working on this project, because it allowed us to combine our passions of being a mom and wanting to ensure the best for our children and all children,” Pharris said. “We each have a passion for reaching consumers to help get them to a place of comfort by expanding their knowledge.” Though the App toolkit launched initially with the 2021 Sienna, Toyota plans to expand video directions and written content to other fleet vehicles over the next few years. Toyota For Families is now accessible through the Toyota Owners App and ToyotaOwners.com. App download is available for iPhone® or Android™ smartphones.

New Tacoma TRD Lift Kit Now Available

There’s no denying the popularity of Toyota Tacoma among truck enthusiasts – just look at its track record as the best-selling midsize truck for the past 16 years! Now, 2020-and-newer Tacoma owners have a suspension lift option available from Toyota Racing Development (TRD). The new Tacoma TRD Lift Kit is now available nationwide as a dealer-installed option, providing up to a 2-inch front and 1-inch rear lift on most V6-powered 4×4 Tacomas. Best of all, this kit was designed and tested by TRD engineers and is the only one validated to be compatible with the Toyota Safety Sense (TSS) system. Tacoma owners are already very accustomed to getting off the beaten path and exploring the great outdoors, and the Tacoma TRD Lift Kit is designed to complement and enhance that lifestyle thanks to the added ground clearance and improved approach, departure and breakover angles it provides. At the heart of the kit are new monotube Bilstein shocks that adopt digressive valving to provide improved on- and off-road vehicle dynamics. Specifically designed to complement the additional lift, each Bilstein shock is fitted with new TRD red dust boots and “Tuned by TRD” graphics. Offering more than good looks, the front shocks provide an additional 2 inches of lift thanks to the adjustment of the coil spring position on the shock tube. The front shocks also improve off-road performance thanks to extended rebound stroke that makes use of the additional suspension travel. more The rear Bilstein shocks employed in the kit also enhance off-road performance thanks to their larger shock body compared to the standard Tacoma shock (2 inches vs. 1.5 inches). The larger shock body houses additional oil volume to help dissipate heat and improve damping response on demanding off-road terrain. The larger rear shock bodies also accommodate larger pistons compared to stock and they employ a piston rod that is 4mm larger for increased strength. Cast-iron spacers are included in the kit to lift the Tacoma 1 inch in the rear. The additional lift provided by the Tacoma TRD Lift Kit gives the truck a taller stance, but the kit offers more than just looks thanks to the improvement to off-road capability it provides. With the kit installed, frame ground clearance increases by 1.7 inches. The kit also improves the approach angle (+3.1 to 32 degrees), breakover angle (+1.6 to 22.6 degrees), and departure angle (+0.5 to 24 degrees). Tacoma TRD Off-Road grades see even further improvement to approach angle that increases to 35.5 degrees (+.3.5 degrees). The icing on this ruggedly tasty cake clearly must be the TRD Pro-style front grille, which is highlighted by heritage-inspired TOYOTA lettering across the front. The kit includes a new Toyota Safety Sense (TSS) system millimeter-wave sensor (and new camera support bracket) that is designed to precisely fit within the grille to retain the functionality of the TSS system once the kit is installed. This is the only lift kit validated to be completely TSS-compatible. Also included are two matching black bezels that fill in the deleted fog lamps and complement the TRD Pro-style grille. The Tacoma TRD Lift Kit comes with all the necessary hardware for installation and is only offered as a dealer-installed option. Manufacturer suggested retail pricing for the kit is $1,350 (not including labor, which is estimated at 4-5 hours). The Tacoma TRD Lift Kit is available for all V6-powered 4×4 models, with the exception of Double Cab Long Bed Tacomas and TRD Pro (2WD and 4-cylinder models are also excluded). The Tacoma TRD Lift Kit comes backed by the same warranty as all TRD accessories, which includes a 3-year, 36,000-mile warranty on parts if it is installed prior to or at the time of the sale, or a 1-year, 12,000-mile warranty on parts if installed afterward.   For more information, contact Passport Toyota or visit TRDusa.com
