Midsize sedans are some of the top selling passenger vehicles in the United States. With roomy interiors, excellent fuel economy, and outstanding safety features, these models are particularly appealing to drivers looking for a family car. For many years, the Toyota Camry has been one of the well-loved models among midsize sedans. Toyota is famous for building reliable cars that hold their value. The Honda Accord is also a well-respected entry into this automotive category, and Honda is also well-known for building vehicles that last. Although both the Camry and the Accord are good vehicles, the 2017 version of the Camry outshines the 2017 version of the Accord in a few important areas.

Interior

The Camry and the Accord have comfortable and spacious interiors that seat up to five people. The 2017 Camry comes out ahead in terms of providing both style and function. Buyers will find that there are plenty of storage areas and large cup holders, making it easy to stow everything they need for a long drive. A 6.1-inch touchscreen comes standard, but a 7-inch is available on higher trim levels. Toyota has chosen to keep climate and audio controls simple by having buttons and knobs placed around the touchscreen. The Accord, meanwhile, has touchscreen controls. Although the Accord's controls may seem more high tech, the ones on the Camry are much easier to use, and there's no learning curve involved.

Standard Features

The Camry comes standard with a touchscreen and Toyota's Entune infotainment system. Drivers will be able to access apps from their smartphone, which makes it easy to find music while driving. The Entune system has a voice activation option, so drivers can easily switch between apps and the Camry's navigation system. Honda has its own infotainment system, but voice controls don't come standard on the Accord. The Camry's standard audio system is also superior as it comes with six standard speakers. Four speakers are standard on the Accord. In addition, a Qi-compatible wireless charging pad comes standard on the Camry's XLE and XSE trims. This features isn't available on any 2017 Accord, regardless of the trim level.

Safety Features

Both of these models come with numerous safety features that are important to modern car buyers. These include anti-lock brakes, stability control, and frontal airbags, and side airbags. However, front knee airbags, which are standard on the Camry, are not available on the Accord. Both models have earned good rating with the IIHS and an overall five-star rating from the NHTSA. The Camry performed better in the NHTSA's passenger side crash rating, getting five stars in the category. The Accord only go four stars in this category.
