New Toyota off-road rigs will be featured at this year’s Chicago Auto Show. The powerful and sleek trucks and SUV will be on display alongside the all-new 2019 Avalon and more than 50 vehicles in Toyota’s exhibit at Chicago’s McCormick Place from February 10-19.
The next batch of trail-ready four wheelers will be unveiled February 8 at 9 a.m. CST. Enthusiasts can get their front-row access here: https://livestream.com/Toyota/Chicago2018.
The all-new Avalon, which made its debut earlier this year at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, will be on display, as well as the FT-4X concept, one-of-a-kind NASCAR Camry designs, the Chicago Speedway Pace Car and two 4Runners wrapped with the Chicago Cubs and Chicago White Sox logos.
Adam Lansing’s prized possession started out as a few thousand pounds of trash with a tree branch growing through the rear bumper.
When Lansing was just 12 years old, a friend’s dad overheard him talking about wanting to convert a gas-powered car into a fully electric vehicle. So the dad gave Lansing an engineless 1980 Celica he had lying around outside his garage.
Lansing took it because, if you’re gonna build your own electric car, you might as well do it with a little style, right?
Fast forward to today. A total of 52 rebuilds, six years of frustration and some huge triumphs have turned that Celica into something unique: A 130-mile range electric vehicle, powered by 94 lithium ion batteries.

The roads of Avalon, the mystical paradise that inspired Toyota’s flagship nameplate, have likely never seen a mid-premium sedan like this. Safe to say, neither has the North American International Auto Show. Until now.
Underpinned by a Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA) platform, and powered by a fuel-efficient 3.5-liter V6 or Toyota Hybrid System (THS II) powertrain, the 2019 Toyota Avalon embodies consumers’ overarching desire for high-caliber, design-centric, technologically-savvy modes of attainable, premium transportation.
