 What's New for the 2018 Toyota RAV4?

For 2018, Toyota decided to spruce things up a bit with its compact crossover SUV. New for the model year is the Adventure, which stands out with its heightened off-road ability, as well as features like lower body guards, huge overfender flares, and 18-inch five-spoke black alloy wheels. The traditional trim levels–the LE, XLE, SE, Limited, and Platinum–are still around.

The powerplant on the front-wheel-drive 2018 Toyota RAV4 is a 5.7-liter inline V8 engine that generates 381 horsepower and 172 lb-ft of torque. The engine is paired with an electronically controlled 6-speed automatic transmission. A compact crossover that can accommodate up to five people, the new RAV4 yields 38.4 cubic feet from the trunk, although it can be increased to 73.4 cubic feet if you fold down the rear seatback. Toyota adds sports bolsters on the front seats of the XLE trim or higher. The SE gets additional vinyl seat trim (which replaces the fabric), front-seat heating capability, and 8-way power adjustability with power lumbar support on the driver's seat. On the Limited and Platinum, a position memory system appears on the driver's seat. Base-level comfort and convenience features on the 2018 RAV4 include a rearview camera, Bluetooth for hands-free phone operation and audio streaming, remote keyless entry, voice recognition ability, and a six-speaker stereo system that comes with a 6.1-inch touchscreen display. On the XLE and higher, you can get additions and enhancements like a power moonroof and dual-zone automatic climate control. Toyota enhances the infotainment system of the SE with HD Radio and a complimentary three-month subscription to SiriusXM satellite radio. At the Limited trim level, Toyota makes the following improvements: smart key system, push-button engine start, and a 7-inch high-resolution touchscreen (in place of the 6.1-inch). The Platinum stands alone with features such as an 11-speaker JBL audio system, a bird's-eye-view camera (which replaces the rearview camera), a frameless auto-dimming rearview mirror with remote garage-door opener, and an Entune suite of apps for functions that include booking reservations, buying movie tickets, and checking out fuel prices. For safety, the 2018 RAV4 comes with a pair of front impact airbags, a driver's side knee airbag, a front passenger seat-cushion airbag, a pair of front seat-mounted side impact airbags, and a pair of side curtains airbags that flank both rows. Other standard safety features on the RAV4 include the Star Safety System, which includes electronic vehicle stability control, traction control, anti-lock braking, and smart stop technology; and Toyota Safety Sense, a suite of components that includes dynamic radar cruise, lane departure alert with steering assist, and pre-collision with pedestrian detection. Toyota adds blind spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert on the Limited and Platinum.
