 What's New for the 2017 Toyota Corolla?

Now produced for half a century, the Toyota Corolla reigns supreme as the best-selling automotive nameplate of all time. The Corolla achieved the milestone in 2016, and in commemoration the 50th Anniversary Special Edition carries over into 2017. This variant comes with unique features such as specially badged 17-inch alloy wheels, Black Cherry color accents, Special Edition floor mats, and a trim-edition exterior badge. With the 2017 model year, the Corolla is deep into its eleventh production cycle, and it comes in seven trims: L, LE, XLE, LE Eco, SE, 50th Anniversary Special Edition, and XSE. New for the model year are an exterior and interior refresh, and the continuously variable transmission (CVT) and rearview camera as standard features on all models.

The 2017 Toyota Corolla is powered by a 1.8-liter inline 4-cylinder engine that produces 132 horsepower and 128 lb-ft of torque. The output on the LE Eco?so named because it?s the most fuel-efficient choice, with its exclusive ECO driving mode?is 140 horsepower and 126 lb-ft of torque. The SE is the only trim that allows you to choose between the CVT and a 6-speed manual transmission; the others go with the CVT. Fuel economy peaks at 30 mpg in the city and 40 mpg on the highway?provided that you go with the LE Eco. As a two-row vehicle with up to 97.5 cubic feet of passenger volume, the 2017 Corolla can comfortably seat up to five people. At the base level, the car has standard features like a rearview camera with projected path, steering wheel-mounted controls, Bluetooth connectivity for hands-free phone operation and audio streaming, and a six-speaker multimedia system that includes a 6.1-inch touchscreen display, AM/FM radio, and a single-disc CD player. Upper-level standard features include HD Radio, a three-month SiriusXM satellite radio subscription, a larger 7-inch touchscreen, fabric- or SoftTex-trimmed seats, front-seat power adjustability, paddle shifters for simulating manual gear shifting, and a smart key system with push-button engine ignition. The 2017 Corolla has eight airbags, which consist of dual front impact airbags, a pair of front seat-mounted side impact airbags, a driver?s knee airbag, a front passenger seat-cushion airbag, and dual side curtains that flank both rows. Also included are the Toyota Safety Sense and Star Safety systems. Toyota Safety Sense consists of pre-collision with pedestrian detection, lane departure alert with steering assist, auto high beams, and dynamic radar cruise control. And Star Safety comprises electronic vehicle stability control, an anti-lock brake system, smart stop technology, electronic brake-force distribution, and brake assist. Other standard safety features on the Corolla include ToyotaCare for roadside assistance, hill start assist control, and a remote keyless entry system that comes with engine immobilization. The SE, Special Edition, and XSE trims comes with all-wheel disc brakes (instead of the regular front-disc rear-drum layout) for shortening stopping distances.
