The 2021 Toyota Mirai has officially set the GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS title for the longest distance by a hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicle without refueling. The Mirai achieved an unprecedented 845 miles driven on a single, five-minute complete fill of hydrogen during a roundtrip tour of Southern California as it set the record. Recently selected by Ward’s Automotive as a 10Best Engine & Propulsion Systems winner, the Toyota Mirai’s record sets a new distance milestone for zero emission vehicles.
“In 2016, the Toyota Mirai was the first production fuel cell electric vehicle available for retail sale in North America, and now the next generation Mirai is setting distance records,” said Bob Carter, executive vice president, Toyota Motor North America. “We are proud to be leaders of this exciting technology, which is just one of a growing lineup of zero emission vehicles in our portfolio.”

The maximum towing capacity offers impressive performance benefits based on huge numbers alone, but that 12,000-pound max tow rating is also paired with a host of new towing features designed to make trailering a less daunting task.
First off, two new Tow/Haul modes are available on Tundra. The standard Tow/Haul mode increases throttle response and is ideal for lighter to moderate needs, such as small box trailers, utility trailers or small boats. In Tow/Haul+ mode, throttle response is more aggressive for situations when towing larger trailers such as RVs, larger box trailers or larger boats. On the i-FORCE MAX powertrains, not only is the electric motor constantly in operation for immediate responsiveness when needed, but the Stop and Start functions are also deactivated so as not to inhibit performance.

Fresh off the introduction of the fourth-generation, hybrid-only Sienna in 2021, one of the most fuel-efficient 7-8 passenger minivans on the market, Toyota is upping the van’s outdoors activity capability. For 2022, the new Sienna Woodland Special Edition combines adventure-inspired rugged styling, a standard Electronic On-Demand All-Wheel Drive System and increased ground clearance for taking the fun further afield.
In addition to the new Woodland Edition, the 2022 Sienna line adds a few updates for its sophomore year: the XLE grade now gets the optional 18-inch wheel design; second-row ottomans are available for the Limited and Platinum grades with all-wheel drive; Windchill Pearl replaces Blizzard Pearl as the premium color offering; and the Woodland Edition is available in the Cement exterior color, exclusive to the Woodland Edition, as well as Midnight Black Metallic.
Toyota reimagined the fourth-generation Sienna, assembled in the U.S. to support a wider array of life stages and activities than the typical minivan. That included answering the call for more luxury, multimedia and outdoors-amenable features. The latter includes a line of Yakima® accessories, such as a rooftop carrier, cross bars, bike rack and more. The outdoors strategy theme escalates with the 2022 Woodland Edition.
The fourth-generation Sienna was designed by the combined effort of CALTY’s Newport Beach, California, and Ann Arbor, Michigan, studios. It’s built around an all-new minivan structure based on Toyota’s versatile TNGA-K Platform architecture. The provocative design was influenced by, but doesn’t copy, the bold and robust character of SUVs. Yet, the design yields notable aerodynamic performance with a remarkably 0.28 coefficient of drag that contributes to remarkably high fuel efficiency and low wind noise.
All-New Toyota Audio Multimedia
Tundra will be the first Toyota to welcome the all-new Audio Multimedia system designed and engineered by Toyota’s Texas-based Connected Technologies team. The system operates on Tundra models via newly designed touchscreens and features an all-new Human Machine Interface (HMI). The advanced HMI delivers improved interaction through sight, touch and voice activation.
Boasting processing power five times greater than the previous generation system, the latest Toyota Audio Multimedia system features a centrally located standard 8-inch touchscreen or an available 14-inch touchscreen with improved screen resolutions for high-quality, crisp visuals. It also includes more responsive touch functionality that is more familiar to consumers like the pinch and zoom functions we experience on our phones and tablets. Certain to be a favorite among gloved Tundra passengers, the new system still uses a large, easy-to-grip dial for audio volume.
