Since 1990, J.D. Power and Associates has released an annual Vehicle Dependability Study helping drivers determine which the automotive brands that offer the best build quality on the road. In conducting the study, J.D. Power and Associates contacts owners of late-model vehicles and inquires about the issues they have encountered over their course of ownership. This data is relayed to consumers in a number of problems per 100 vehicles format, so that they can see how different brands compare.

How does Toyota typically fare? Quite well. And this year has proven to be no exception. The Japanese automaker actually featured a total of eight vehicles from its three brands (Lexus, Toyota & Scion) in the study, and each of them scored in the top five!

-    Lexus came in at number one, with a total of 86 problems per 100 vehicles among Luxury brands
-    Toyota came in at third, with a total of 104 problems per 100 vehicles
-    And youth-focused brand, Scion came in at fifth, with 111 problems per 100 vehicles

Compared to some other competing brands, these numbers are quite laudable. For instance, some automakers experienced as many as 192 problems per 100 vehicles.
